The Secret of Being series

This new series in progress (2024-ongoing), conceived by KD Meyers in collaboration with collage artist Jody Smith, is an inquiry into the invisible—the formless essence of spirituality that transcends practice, ritual, and dogma.  It is is an immersive visual tapestry that invites viewers to experience yoga as a living, luminous presence.

Drawing inspiration from our book “Secrets from the Heart of Yoga: New Yoga Sutras,” these large-scale abstract collages arise from silence and inner exploration. They reflect the “meditation that is always happening and always available,” if we allow ourselves to rest in the “emptiness prior to thought and experience” that lies just below the surface of the phenomenal world.   The works explore the core realization that spiritual awakening is unbound—free of rigid practices or forms. Each artwork has been received as a visual sutra, a portal which bypasses the analytical mind and plunges the viewer into spacious awareness and pure presence.

Inspired by Tantric yantras, Tibetan mandalas, Native American sand painting, and other spiritual and natural symbols and forms that function as archetypes, these works are portals to the transcendent, and reflect the timeless inquiry celebrated in both Eastern philosophies and contemporary aesthetics.  They  offer an experiential encounter with the unseen, inviting viewers to recognize the luminous spirit at the heart of all things.

Visually, the works are monumental museum-quality prints that integrate spiritual forms including asana into radiant energetic fields, psychedelic dreamscapes, and abstract mandalas. Through layering, digital collage, and vibrant color fields, the boundaries of the forms dissolve, revealing the subtle currents of consciousness that flow beneath physical form.  These works celebrate the spirituality inherent in all forms.

'The Secret of Being: Yogic Visions from the Heart of Emptiness’ reflects universal truths that bridge cultural, spiritual, and aesthetic worlds. The works are not merely images but evoke qualities of being—a silent transmission of the formless truth that spirituality, at its essence, is boundless, radiant, and utterly free.
